The end of another Monday and I’m thinking about the “nice” rejection I got today. She said “Hi” and spelt my name correctly. Mentioned the title of my manuscript and wrote kind words of encouragement. I appreciated that.
But did you know that the word “nice” wasn’t always meant to be agreeable? Long ago the word was used negatively. It meant someone who was foolish, stupid, ignorant or unaware.
With that, some days I think I must be awfully “nice” since I keep fooling myself in believing that all of these words I keep pouring out of my soul may … could perhaps mean something, touch or move someone.
The other day my friend told me that she couldn’t do what I do (speaking of the constant rejection). And most days it’s okay but some days it’s just so very … NICE.
Hi,
I just read your comment on the Blue Boards and checked out your engaging blog. My most recent novel is mostly flashbacks and only a few readers have complained. Some of them are adults who assume kids won’t like the structure, but the kids themselves don’t seem to mind. Some reviewers have called my book YA, but it’s in that middle range, ages 10–14, for kids who can handle something a bit different. The book is Waiting to Forget and was published by namelos.
Good luck with your story!
Thank you Sheila! I really appreciate your visit here with me on my blog. I’m going to get your book, Waiting to Forget. I am truly looking forward to reading it.
I read about you online and you are the accomplished writer I aspire to be … congratulations! And I really appreciate you easing my mind about my use of flashbacks. I’m still not sure if I was able to pull it off. Though, I hope.
Take care!
Thanks, Vanessa. This whole writing life can get discouraging even for people who’ve had things published. Your blog is great, so you are already successful.
Keep it up. 🙂
