When I was 7 Mom bought a storybook record. It played on an old 45 player. Three recordings were my favorites: Thumbelina, Hansel and Gretel, and Cinderella. I still remember the songs, “Thumbelina, Thumbelina! Yes that’s me. Thumbelina Thumbelina! Full of glee. So pretty and so clever. Stay with us forever.”
Some days being a mom, wife, daughter, auntie, friend and writer and everything else, it’s tiring. That’s when I remember the Cinderella song, “Wash the dishes. Scrub the floor. See whose knocking at the door. Where’s my dress? Brush my hair. Gee … I can’t be everywhere! Cinderella! Cinderella! I’m coming …”
I have been looking for a copy of that!! I too had a copy of the same storybook/record combination.
I know! Wouldn’t it be great to hear those old records again…what memories it’d bring back!
I had that record too… i’ve been searching for it. please post when you find it. I still sing the cinderalla song..
I’ve been looking for that also. I had it on cassette. I also had another fabulous recording of musical versions of Alice in Wonderland and Sleeping Beauty with the hit songs “Ten golden plates for ten good little faeries” and “Happy Birthday, Happy Birthday, Oh this is a Heaven-on-Earth-Day. Oh Life is so Wonderful.. When you are Sixteen!” It was so jazzy. I distinctly remember the case for Cinderella. It had a copyright CBS Records and the Cinderella Art had her in a pale blue dress.
Oh my goodness! What a precious gift you sent me today. I went back in time …
Thank you so much! So much. I’m crying. The memories!
I had the 33 record version and remember the 10 golden plates song and the Cinderella song. The drawings on the cover of the album were beautiful. I keep thinking that the group “The Pied Pipers” did the singing.
I found Thumbelina!
Cinderella
Yes, I had a full LP of these songs as a child, and I believe it’s still at my parent’s home (who live in another State from me). I found this post because I was looking for the Sleeping Beauty song, “ten golden plates for ten good little fairies.” May have to look for the album next time I’m visiting my mother. Anyway, I believe all the stories on the album, those I can recall anyway, were Sleeping Beauty, Snow White, Hansel and Gretel, Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella, and I can’t recall anymore than that. My album didn’t include Thumbelina.
Here is the Sleeping Beauty story… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KYvuz8ZtpzU
Found the Sleeping Beauty album!
Thank you Mary! This is absolutely wonderful!!
do you know the name of the record? I had the same one and I would love to get it again!
Hi, sorry, but I don’t remember the name of it off hand. I think copies of it are on my blog post. The name of the record might be there. 🙂
Hello, Venessa, I sing sleeping beauty’s birthday song from that record to my children every year! While looking for a copy of the song your post came up. I recently tracked down the record and ordered it— happily unwrapping it and listening to it yesterday:) There may be more than one version but I found the one I grew up with! Thanks for describing it; your clues helped me recognize it!

Thanks for sharing this, Lauran! I love to hear that after all of these years that the sleeping beauty’s record is still being enjoyed by little ones. I listened to the record before bedtime as well, and now, hearing the songs always gives me a warm comforting feeling. I’m so glad you were able to track down the record and order it! Thanks again. 🙂
